Obsession (2026)

Written & Directed by: Curry Barker

This movie feels more like an acting exhibition, showcasing how talented the actors are. They scream, they shout, and unfortunately, that’s about as far as the movie goes.

No matter how much range the actors show, the characters remain frustratingly one-dimensional. They exist solely to set up jump scares or to be constantly frowned upon.

There’s little to no substance to the story. The movie drags on for too long without the plot moving forward.

You can easily forgive a thin and hollow script when the viewing experience is satisfying, but even in that aspect, the movie falls short.

It’s neither scary nor unsettling. Imagine watching someone throw tantrums for over an hour — it becomes more annoying than entertaining.

What makes it worse is how passive most characters can be amid everything happening around them. Regardless of how violent or chaotic the scenes become, their reactions are superficial. No actions are being done.

Seeing them do nothing gives the impression that the movie is deliberately extending its runtime. With barely any story holding the movie together, most scenes play out like standalone clips designed to go viral on social media at any day.

Most shots rely on the same technique: staying still at first before slowly zooming in. The camera is often positioned to one side, peeking and moving around corners. After a while, the visual style feels more repetitive than creative.

Probably the closest thing the movie has to being scary is its musical scoring. It’s enough to make your heart skip a beat. Other than that, it’s hard to immerse yourself in a world where almost nothing is established.

The shouting intensifies, yet the story remains stagnant. The movie relies more on temporary shock value than meaningful progression.

This is all empty noise.

Nothing to be obsessed with.
