An Errand (Cinemalaya 2024)
Directed by: Dominic Bekaert
It’s so tempting to pause the scenes and have more time to appreciate the movie’s cinematography. Unfortunately, we can’t stop time. So let’s seize the moment not only with watching movies but also with living life. Don’t treat life as an errand.
Contradicting that statement, the character in this movie sees life as an errand. Whatever his boss says, he follows.
You can feel the constant boredom in this film through his mundane activities. Conversations are uninspiring. Choices are not valued. Moments are just passing by. Time is fleeting.
For when a movie deals with life and choices, having a heart to share a story is more essential than an eye to see the visuals.
With this kind of story, a short film would have sufficed since you don’t need more than 60 minutes to impart its message. Having a screentime of 83 minutes, this movie is only consistent in putting cinematography above anything else.
Speaking through the heart
is an errand this film has to work on.
