BIG NIGHT!

Big Night! (MMFF 2021)

Directed by: Jun Robles Lana

Meron kang isang araw

para linisin ang pangalan mo.

Handa ka bang gawin lahat para malinis ‘to?

Mapapagod ka para kay Christian Bables dito.

Kung anu-ano ang pinagawa sa kanya.

Kung sinu-sino ang nakilala niya.

Maraming batikang artista ang pinakita. Hindi lang sila basta-basta lumabas para magpasikat. Kinailangan sila para umusad ang istorya.

Eugene Domingo’s high energy is needed. Nico Antonio’s sincere enthusiasm is felt. Soliman Cruz’ manipulative behavior is convincing. Ricky Davao shows love and understanding in just one line. Janice de Belen’s straightforward speech is inspiring. Gina Alajar’s epiphany made us reflect. John Arcilla’s presence is strong and frightening.

Despite the star-studded cast, Christian Bables shines as the lead. His roles may be getting repetitive, but his dedication didn’t falter.

The movie was able to maintain the thrill and anticipation on what’s going to happen next. The momentum never stops—similar to their several continuous shots.

Kasama mo siyang naglakbay, natuto at napagod.

Pina-ikot-ikot lang tayo ng maduming sistema.

Handa ka bang gawin lahat para malinis ‘to?

On the final scene concluding the Big Night, Christian Bables made a look for the audience to see. No words to tell, but you can feel everything. Too many messages, but all contained into one.

That’s how powerful the movie is.

That’s how big the night is.
