Billie & Emma (QCinema 2018)
Directed by: Samantha Lee
Let’s set things straight... Billie & Emma fell in love with each other while the latter is still in a relationship with another man.
Whether you’re curious or straight, that’s just plain infidelity.
This movie romanticized cheating by presenting a lovable onscreen pair tied on a same sex relationship, but the LGBT community deserves a decent story with sound characters in it.
They’re making unjustifiable decisions and unrelatable actions.
There’s a teacher in this movie who once said on her lecture, “Homosexuality is a sin”. Then towards the end, she embraced homosexuality as if not condemning it in the first place.
The Sister in their school campus, who upholds Catholic values, managed to be forgiving about teenage pregnancy but for selfish intentions. Her lack of depth about the situation makes her unbefitting of her stature.
Billie’s personality is too frigid na nawalan na sya ng sarili nyang boses. He should be the voice of reason here, but his words are just as meaningless as his actions.
She gets what she wants, even if hindi nya alam kung ano tlga ang gusto nya sa buhay. Ipinakilala syang honor student dito, but she doesn’t act with honor.
Hindi na baleng may masaktan syang iba.
Basta ang mahalaga, masaya ang buhay nya.
The movie went on na parang okay lang lahat ng ginagawa at pinapakita nila. Them not acknowledging anything wrong is probably their biggest downfall. Naging mababaw ang pagmamahalan nila Billie & Emma.
Love was defined by wrong reasons and selfish wants. And what’s saddening is they used same sex relationship to leverage that love.
