DEATH OF A GIRLFRIEND

Death of a Girlfriend (2021)

Directed by: Yam Laranas

A girl was murdered and there are 3 suspects—the boy friend, the forest ranger and the farmer.

Who is the real killer?

The movie started with suspects being interrogated. The way of questioning was intentionally being dragged to establish suspense. You then become curious of the characters and their motives. However, none of which had a proper background that would make you want to invest on them.

All the characters exist for trivial reasons. The forest ranger’s purpose is to roam around the forest. The farmer’s role is to sell weeds. The boy friend’s goal is to arouse the girl. Then the girl is just there for display.

Both of them have the looks and the body, but they lack the energy and intensity. Their moments together are dull; their sex scenes are uninspiring; their story is meaningless.

The movie has given a small amount of thrill by letting you guess who’s the killer. But with characters that have no sense of purpose, it’s hard to follow their story. The information they’ve been showing is too underwhelming for a crime investigation, leaving us with a killing that made no sense.

The Death of a Girlfriend made no sense.
