DITO AT DOON

Dito at Doon (2021)

Directed by: JP Habac

Two strangers, who met online, establish an instant connection during the quarantine period.

The film started out strong, discussing lockdown dilemma of staying inside vs. needing to go outside. Both characters care for their family and the society, but differ in views. Both sides are true and sensible, making them easily relatable.

Who are these people when they’re not talking to each other? They weren’t given the chance to make the most out of their characters.

JC Santos works as a day laborer, but fails to share his daily struggles. Janine Gutierrez graduates with honors, but fails to showcase her intelligence when situations arise. These characterizations were set aside to give way for trivial conversations.

The conversation scenes are visually appealing. They managed to break boundaries from the usual video chat room set-up. Technically, they are talking face-to-face; but story-wise, they are just talking via laptop or via cellphone.

Magkasama sila.

Nagsimula sila dito.

Napunta sila doon.

Nawala ang gitna.
