ELEHIYA

Elehiya (QCinema 2022)

𝘔𝘴. 𝘊𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦 𝘎𝘪𝘭’𝘴 𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘮𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘦

Directed by: Loy Arcenas

Woman hating on fellow woman.

Doctor who doesn’t have the heart to help.

Filipino siding with foreigners.

The rich using her power to play with the poor.

This is not grief anymore.

More on power-tripping.

What’s worse is that the screenplay didn’t really show what the character is going through.

It’s hard to love a character who doesn’t have a story to tell and who doesn’t even care. But it’s also hard to ignore Cherie Gil’s palpable performance (alongside commendable cast Ross Pesigan, Sue Prado, Miguel Faustmann and Erlinda Villalobos).

The stages of her transformation were seen. Beneath her eyes you can see her inner desires.

Cherie Gil is La Primera Contravida for all the right reasons; she is the villain with a substance. And she will always be remembered with her good iconic movies.
