GOMBURZA

GomBurZa (MMFF 2023)

Directed by: Pepe Diokno

𝘎𝘰𝘮𝘉𝘶𝘳𝘡𝘢 is one of the most decent and visually stunning Filipino historical films in the recent years.

Carlo Canlas Mendoza’s cinematography is top-notch. Every scene is picturesque. Your eyes will be glued to the screen. Your ears will be blessed too with Teresa Barrozo’s riveting scoring. The sound by Albert Michael Idioma made the scenes more palpable.

The conversation about one’s faith and fate is remarkable. The words are carefully chosen to emphasize the significance of their situation. It’ll make you ponder on things about and beyond 𝘎𝘰𝘮𝘉𝘶𝘳𝘡𝘢.

Even though the movie is named after the three priests, you’ll only get to know them on a surface level. Aside from the fact that they want to end injustice and inequality, there’s no further info about them. The chance to draw inspiration from their respective life stories and to present these stories on the big screen are missed.
