Hello, Universe! (2023) Directed by: Xian Lim
A man, who thinks he is a failure, wishes to have a different life.
He keeps on saying that he is unfortunate, but the scenes are not enough to support his claim. As a result, you can’t fully empathize with his so-called “miserable” life in the beginning.
His journey is limited into short fleeting moments—not enough to feel the changes from his old life to his new universe. Some actors appear only once or twice, even though they are essential to the main character’s journey. The presence of basketball icons could’ve been more impactful if the player-to-coach angle was further developed.
Matamlay ang gitnang bahagi ng pelikula. Madaming beses nagtangkang magpatawa, ngunit iilan lang ang shoot sa banga.
Nonetheless, it’s refreshing to see that the jokes are less green and more harmless. Anjo Yllana had his animated portrayal as an action star. Ube Lola and MJ Cayabyab gave fun and entertaining performances.
Even though the movie has more punchlines, its strongest element is drama.
The movie has moments when you can just be grateful on what the universe has to offer. The scoring, the sounds and the special effects added more soul and life to the important parts of the movie.
Janno Gibbs can give good vibes, but he is at his best when he genuinely reflects on his character. In those scenes, you can feel his sincerity and remorse. 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘱𝘪𝘵𝘰-𝘱𝘪𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘮𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘗𝘢𝘬𝘣𝘰𝘺𝘴, 𝘚𝘪𝘹𝘵𝘺 𝘕𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘗𝘭𝘶𝘴 𝘖𝘯𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘚𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘰, Janno Gibbs marks his most decent and best performance here in 𝘏𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘰 𝘜𝘯𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘦, as he effectively showed a side of him often not seen—his vulnerability.
Tagged as comedy, this movie shoots you right where you least expect it. The story ended right where it should be.
Its heart is in the right place.
Hindi lang sila basta nagpatawa. May kwento at may puso ang pelikula. At iyon ang nangibabaw sa huli…
…ang kanilang mensahe para sa’yo at sa universe.
