LIMBO is a theatrical play about never-ending poverty enacted by the students of De La Salle - College of Saint Benilde.
The most interesting thing about this play is not the play itself—but the juxtaposition of the characters and the student actors.
Ang kanilang dula ay tungkol sa kahirapan, ngunit lahat ng artista ay mula sa marangyang eskwelahan. Paano nila bibigyang buhay ang ganitong buhay?
Quoting one of the student actors, “𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘬𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘢𝘴 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘨 𝘴𝘢 𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘺𝘢𝘺𝘢𝘳𝘪 𝘴𝘢 𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘰 𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯. 𝘔𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘨 𝘴𝘢 𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘢𝘺 𝘯𝘨 𝘭𝘢𝘣𝘢𝘴.”
The students are here not just to act but also to empathize. They are using what they have to reach out and send a message.
“𝘕𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘬𝘢-𝘩𝘺𝘱𝘰𝘤𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘯𝘢 𝘪𝘱𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘣𝘢𝘴 𝘯𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘣𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘢𝘱𝘰𝘴 𝘯𝘢𝘴𝘢 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘴𝘺𝘰𝘯 𝘬𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘦𝘹𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘦, 𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘦, 𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥… 𝘚𝘢𝘯𝘢 𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘵 𝘯𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘩𝘪𝘺𝘰 𝘯𝘢 𝘪𝘣𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘢𝘺 𝘴𝘢 𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘯 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢 𝘬𝘢𝘩𝘪𝘵 𝘱𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘰 𝘢𝘺 𝘮𝘢𝘣𝘢𝘨𝘰 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘮𝘢.”
This play alone won’t really change the current system in the Philippines. It won’t stop poverty. It stays in Limbo. But if you look outside the play, it’ll somehow make you hopeful.
Sana.
