Mahal Kita, Beksman (2022)
Directed by: Perci Intalan
A feminine man explains to everybody that he is straight.
The words he used are not complicated. The terms are not complex. The lines are delivered in the most genuine way possible. It was pure. It was simple. It was felt.
That’s when you know this film is not just for laughs. It’s about representation. And there’s no other actor that can best represent this but Christian Bables.
Christian Bables is not new to feminine roles. But he managed to give something new to this role. He showed the intricacy of a person that’s often misunderstood. He did it with justice, care and flying colors.
This movie is a comedy with a purpose.
It is rated PG for a good reason.
It is for everyone to embrace.
The ensemble provides meaningful laughter. The timing in throwing punchlines is on point. Even in the most unexpected scenes, there’s still humor in it. Although sometimes you wish there were more serious scenes too when tackling the issue.
Further guidance from family and friends is lacking from the story. Iana Bernardez’ character had much more to offer, but their love story is hurried.
The songs are enjoyable and fitting. The movie is sometimes reminiscent to the 90s vibe when you can just sing and dance all your worries away.
Walang halong biro.
Beksman.
