MAMASAPANO

Mamasapano (MMFF 2022)

Directed by: Lester Dimaranan

44 SAF commandos died in a botched police operation called "Oplan Exodus” last January 25, 2015 at Mamasapano, Maguindanao.

Based on true events, the movie did its research. But the facts are placed all over the movie, and the direction is nowhere to be found.

You are mostly detached with the events, as the movie heavily relied on texts and captions to describe what’s happening.

And just before the credits roll, there were around 10 consecutive statements that keep flashing on screen—bombarding us with details akin to a PowerPoint presentation.

For an action film, the intensity is lacking. The battle scenes won’t keep you at the edge of your seats, but will take you out of your seats rather. Bullets have been fired everywhere but the heart, since the movie only introduced the commandos on a surface level.

Some of the actors are good, and they’re mostly the veteran actors. While majority gave a lousy acting.

The movie aims to tell the story of the fallen 44.

But it was not served.
