LONG POST AHEAD. Lots of things and emotions to unpack.
With Mikko Angeles’ new direction and Paw Castillo’s humane portrayal of 𝘊𝘺𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘰, MULA SA BUWAN 2024 has become THE BEST VERSION OF THIS SHOW!
Andaming nagsasalita at gumagalaw.
Because of MC Dela Cruz’ grounded performance, his character is not a mere rivalry but a fellow lover who also deserves to be heard. Whenever Paw and MC are having conversations, they share the same energy and space. Because of their genuine connection with one another, the emotions are twice as heavy.
Whether his lines are brief or lengthy, Jules Dela Paz has the power to shower the entire theater with laughter because of his funny antics. Whenever Jillian Ita-as is on stage, she’ll get your attention as she always puts life into her lines. Gab Pangilinan shines best when she uses her enchanting voice to send a heartbreaking message.
Aside from the ensemble, the set pieces gave a cinematic experience. The scoring with humming is heavenly to the ears yet it’s piercing through the heart. It’s seamless how the songs are inserted to every scene. All the songs are beautifully written, and some of them really cuts deep because of the backstory it holds. Matatapos Din, Ikaw, Ang Sabi Nila, and the titular song “Mula Sa Buwan” are truly emotional performances that let us relive the pain and its gain.
To nitpick this show, the shells placed on the stage is blocking the characters’ body especially when they’re lying down. MC Dela Cruz has a tendency to shout when reaching a high note. Paw Castillo’s singing voice often falters. Nonetheless, these imperfections are superseded by Paw and MC’s flawless interpretation of their characters. These two actors, plus the show itself, have done so many great things to be bothered by the little things.
Each element from this show has its own beauty, and Director Mikko Angeles is able to integrate them all into a one whole sensible theater experience. Utmost importance is always given to the conversation scenes which allow the characters to become real and palpable. This show, that was once beautiful from afar, has become more relatable and within reach.
𝘔𝘶𝘭𝘢 𝘚𝘢 𝘉𝘶𝘸𝘢𝘯 has successfully reached the moon and the stars with its profoundness. But no matter where it goes, this show has landed into its most important destination which is inside our hearts.
Mula sa buwan at mula sa puso, sabay sabay tayong mangarap, umibig at masaktan!
