Nerisa (2021)
Directed by: Lawrence Fajardo
Nerisa looks like a regular sexy film on the facade. But towards the end, it recreates itself into something more.
It gave something intangible and inexplicable of which can only be perceived by the emotions.
The Director has molded this film to be emotionally captivating. The events were deliberately set up to trigger your feelings. He used it as an opportunity to provide a satisfying climax.
The scoring amplified the suspense present in the story. The cinematography captured the vastness of the situation. The camera angles added more passion and tension to the scenes.
The narration with AJ Raval’s voice essentially summarizes the story — without giving too much details. The words are selected and uttered to provide a contrast of mystery and enlightenment.
Some symbolisms are overly used, most especially the Philippine Flag. The dialogues can sometimes be a bit theatrical, losing the natural flow of conversations.
The actors are weirdly effective. You barely know anything about their roles. Yet they have the ability to provoke you and play with your feelings.
Cindy Miranda possesses that beauty perfection apt for the titular character. Her acting is not as resonating as the sea, but it has the potential to soar.
Lahat sila ay nais mo pa sanang makilala. Pero iniwan silang lutang sa dagat. At hindi mo mahuli huli.
This film left a lot of unexplored characters and unanswered questions. But it also left an unexplainable gratifying feeling at the end.
Having many questions and intense emotions, you are bewildered with provoking thoughts of what Nerisa truly means in our lives.
Is she a legend that we adore?
Or a truth that we just ignore?
