Pushcart Tales (PCPFF 2024)
Written & Directed by: Sigrid Andrea Bernardo
6 people are trapped inside a grocery store.
Each one of them shares a tale of their lives.
The stories are different from one another, but all of them are relatable. The experiences are unique to every character, but the struggles are universal.
The movie has only 1 location, but it takes us to different situations. There are only 6 actors, but the characters are beyond numbers.
Due to its one location setting, it can be adapted to a play. Some parts are better acted on stage, yet seeing it on big screen has its own beauty as well.
The plot and the plottwists seem improbable but not totally impossible. The flow could’ve been better. There are some terms that they are deliberately using for them to arrive at their desired ending. Nonetheless, the movie’s ending is cathartic and satisfying.
Every actor in this film is worthy of a mention. Shamaine Buencamino is a queen who reigns in her own right. Harvey Bautista rocks. Carlos Siguion-Reyna was unforgettable. Therese Malvar is killing it. Elora Españo slayed. Nonie Buencamino is outstanding. This ensemble deserves a round of applause.
This movie is part of the Puregold film festival and the shooting location was entirely inside Puregold. With or without this trivia, the screenplay is already a winning piece on its own.
