Us Again (2020)
Directed by: Joy Aquino
This movie is confused on what story it wants to tell. The storytelling is not cohesive. The tone is uneven. The execution is shaky—literally and figuratively.
The characters keep mentioning about their aspirations in life, but the movie is too selfish to show its progress. There is no evolving lifestyle presented.
All the circumstances were forcefully aligned for the leads to fall in love with each other. Still, they failed to share a decent love story.
Their story shows no stages. They keep inserting scenes without building them up.
All their pains, hardships and realizations seem apathetic afterwards.
A self-inflicted conflict that’s unnecessary, accompanied by an easy solution that’s unsatisfactory.
Meanwhile, there are other existing issues that are more compelling of a proper discussion. But the resolution they provided is underwhelming.
Instead of containing the damage, the major twist exploded out of proportion because there’s no strong foundation to support it in the first place.
The movie puts a little of bit of every other thing that don’t add up to a common direction. Except for the soundtrack that works just right, all the other elements don’t fit perfectly.
