VOLTES V LEGACY: THE CINEMATIC EXPERIENCE

Voltes V Legacy: The Cinematic Experience (2023) Directed by: Mark Reyes

Voltes V Legacy is too good to be a TV series. But not too good for a movie release.

The movie literally felt a cut from the series. 3 weeks worth of episodes are squeezed into a 2-hour special, wherein most of the scenes they’ve chosen are not fully fitting for a cinema run. There’s a lot of details missing. The plot simply tells us that there’s an ongoing interplanetary war. The motives, the trainings, the background and many other things, that should be present in a film, are most likely to be shown in the series.

Being a portion of a whole, the movie has a lot of anticlimactic moments. Every scene can either be an opening or an ending sequence of a Friday episode from GMA Telebabad. You’ll only realize that a certain event is happening because the characters are blatantly shouting about it or because subtexts are appearing on screen. The dialogues can get too dry even if it’s already the climax.

The visual effects are far from perfect, but they are impressive in terms of Philippine television and movie standards.

The highly-anticipated volt-in sequence is worth the cinematic experience. It is the highlight of the movie, bringing back childhood memories and creating new ones for generations to come.

As the leads are moving into their V formation, it’s a constant reminder for the Philippines to always move forward and take a leap when it comes to production. The message goes beyond the story, proving that we can mount a show as big as Voltes V.

It may be a show that you can patiently wait via television for free. But it’s not a disappointment either after paying to watch it via big screen.

Whether you’re a fan or an acquaintance of Voltes V, this is a defining moment in our entertainment history that you want to be part of.

Let’s volt in to the Legacy that the Philippines is making.
