WHETHER THE WEATHER IS FINE

Whether the Weather is Fine (MMFF 2021)

Kun Maupay Man It Panahon

Directed by: Carlo Francisco Manatad

This movie shows the aftermath of Typhoon Yolanda that hit the Philippines last 2013.

There’s the government incompetency, poor system, unreliable news, broken dreams, shattered people… And the list never ends.

It’s actually a powerful topic,

especially during this time of pandemic.

But instead of having a strong messaging, this movie opted to go the weaker and cowardly route, bombarding us with nonstop symbolisms.

They try so hard to make every scene playful and unfathomable—similar to the unimaginable hardships of the victims.

Less about the characters and the tragedy.

Lacking pure intentions and emotions.

More of just a display and showcase.

Whether or not the actors are good,

Whether or not the production is impressive,

The movie did not do fine in telling a story.
